What is Letterboxing?

People Walking Away Combining hiking with treasure hunting, letterboxing is a low-tech activity which requires following clues to small hidden stamps and logbooks. Secret codes, orienteering, trivia and puzzles are among the possible clue requirements for a given letterbox. You are free to choose the type of clues and location of letterboxes you wish to hunt for. Originating in Dartmoor, England in the mid-1800's, letterboxes can now be found around the globe, including more than 23,000 in the United States alone. Letterboxing is a great family activity and suitable for moderately fit people of any age. Bring sturdy shoes, long pants, a water bottle, a compass and a sense of humor.
